Well, we are on Tuesday and what freaky creature do I today, it
is the Panda Ant.
Don’t be fooled by its cute appearance it’s actually a wasp
whose sting packs a punch.
It is found in Chile and its bold colour is to warn off predators.
Both male and female look similar they can be mistaken as different species. This
is because the males are twice the size of females and then some. The males
also have wings and are nocturnal unlike the females.
The female lay their eggs in the nests of ground-living insects
and when they hatch, they eat the larvae of the original insect.
Nasty little bugger!
ReplyDeleteI agree
DeleteI was just thinking how cute it was and then read the sting.
ReplyDeleteCute and painful in my opinion
DeleteIt's a cutie but not so nice.
ReplyDeleteThat's for sure
DeleteEw. That would make me run. Looks too weird!
ReplyDeleteYeah I get that
DeleteI had not heard about these guys until I stayed in Arizona. They are red there, and fuzzy ... which makes you think they are so cute. Then they sting you!!!
ReplyDeleteNot something I want to meet
DeleteAnother animal that I didn't know yet :)
ReplyDeleteIt is one to avoid
DeleteI wouldn't want to meet one in a dark alley!
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Jo-Anne!
