Monday's Facts

Hello Monday, hello facts and hello world.................

The South Pole is colder than the North Pole

M & M;s are said to have been invented so that soldiers could eat chocolate without getting sticky fingers.

In the remote island on St Kilda, Scotland letters were once placed in hollowed-out driftwood attached to an inflated sheep's bladder. These were set adrift in the north Atlantic, where current, wind and luck carried the mail ashore to the mainland.

Cranberries where once tested for ripeness by bouncing them, a fully ripened cranberry will bounce like a ball.

The Earth has in its history been hit by at least one million meteors.

  1. I knew that about the cranberries. Cranberry harvest here is BEAUTIFUL. Wet harvest (when the flood the bogs to float them to the top... they have air pockets in them) are for juice and jelly. The areal views of the bogs during harvest are stunning with fall colors. Dry harvest (done by hand by walking the bogs before they are flooded) are used for baking. Dry harvest is far more expensive to do and therefore why bagged cranberries are more expensive.

  5. I didn't know any of these, and I find the cranberry one the most interesting! My dad lives on the west coast of Canada and sometimes he'll send pics when he and his wife go walking near or at a cranberry farm, during harvest time. :-)

  6. CW, I have not! :) But I do know there are still some mail people that jump off a boat, to a dock, deliver the boxes and then jump back on the boat, without having the boat stop.

    Crazy.
