What is your take of drugs

Drugs...............do you know someone who has a problem with drugs?

I do, there is a member of my family who has a problem with drugs even though they haven't done drugs in a while as far as I know. I don't know much about their problem I have never asked and to be honest I have never wanted to know.

I know very little about drugs and what goes on with drug addicts it is not something I have much knowledge about.

How about alcohol, do you know someone who has a problem with alcohol?

Again I do as most people know Tim likes his wine but he is trying to cut down his drinking and has been doing well, not drinking much if at all during the working week and only having something to drink over the weekend. I am very proud of him.

I do not get why people with a drinking problem and people with a drug problem are lumped together, the term “sober” to me refers to someone who is not drunk not someone who hasn't done drugs someone who hasn't done drugs is clean not sober in my opinion.

Maybe I am just old fashion or just old.......................lol

I don't understand why people do drugs, I just don't get it and I don't get how people get addicted to pain medication I know it happens but I don't get it.

I also don't see the point in getting stupid drunk all the bloody time, I am not saying I haven't got stupid drunk because I have of course just not every week maybe a couple of times a year but not all the time what is the point. I like to have a few drinks but it is rare for me to be drunk.

  1. It starts with having a weak link in your make up. Then you stumble into whatever it is, the seed plants in the crack, and grows. Many people are extremely fortunate to not have a weak link; others are just blessed that they manage to avoid stumbling into it. But once you pass those two barriers, it's like pulling weeds to get out. The root breaks off, it grows again.

  2. I am useless to answer as I have been lucky enough not to have so much pain that I had pills to get addicted to. I don't drink, so, no problem there. But the one thing that helps me through to my older age is: I like to be in control of myself. If I had even taken those things, I would not be in control. I would hate to think what would happen.

    1. Yes I also am lucky that I have never been in so much pain that I would have to take really strong pain medication that could be addictive. I also don't drink much

  3. My ex was an alcoholic. I know (sadly) many people who struggle with drug and alcohol addiction. Think of it as a progressive disease. Some people can get a sniffle and get better right away. But with others, the sniffle turns into a cold, becomes pneumonia, and eventually can kill. The spiral is controllable, but out of control if that makes any sense.

    1. Yes it does make sense, I know some people think it sounds like a good idea to give some kind drug a try and before they know it they are addicted and in a downward spiral

  4. I don't know all that much about drugs. I smoked a little weed in high school. I don't think I know anyone who is in to drugs. I don't drink much. Willy Dunne Wooters told me he used to get stinking drunk all the time, but he replaced that activity with seeing me. I think he drank because he was lonely.

  5. I'm a recovered alcoholic and it's not about wanting to get sloppy drunk. A drink or two begins as a way to mask pain or the inability to deal properly with problems. A person might not even realize that's what they're doing. It spirals into an addiction when it takes control of a part of your brain. Everyday I'd wake up and swear to myself that I wouldn't take a drink that day and I meant it at the time. But then the addiction wins and one drink turns into another and you begin the vicious cycle all over again. It's not about will power. It's about breaking the cycle and relearning how to work through the issues you deal with. Some people are more prone to become alcoholics, It, unfortunately, runs in my family so it's no surprise I became one. Although I thought I'd made it. I just had my 4 year sobriety anniversary and I am proud of myself.
