Cabbage Patch Dolls.................or what Kathy didn't get

                          Cabbage Patch Dolls and Kathy-Lee
When she was a child one year my daughter Kathy-Lee wanted a Cabbage Patch Doll for her birthday or Christmas but she didn't get one. Why because we couldn't afford it also I thought they were ugly dolls but mostly it was that we couldn't afford it and my thought was that she would soon forget and get over it.................famous last words................lol

Yes Kathy-Lee is now 27yrs old and still goes on about not getting her Cabbage Patch doll....................lol

Damn kid forget about it already............that ship has sailed.......

So here is a question for you is there a toy you really wanted as a child and never got.........

I do not remember ever wanting something I didn't get so that is either because I was lucky and got everything I want or that my memory is shot............lol

  1. Everything I wanted, I got, although not everything right away. SOme things, like my first horse, took a few years.

And I never thought the CP dolls were really cute, either...

  2. I always thought those dolls were darned ugly and couldn't understand their popularity. I don't remember not getting something I really wanted, but my wants were pretty simple. However, I do remember that when I got my first bicycle for Christmas that it had a light on the front. The light required batteries. I wanted so badly to be able to turn on that light. I don't know why. I never rode the bike after dark. But my mom said no, it would be a waste of batteries. I've never forgotten how much I wanted to be able to turn on that silly light.

    Love,
    Janie

  3. My husband worked in a company that could buy Cabbage Patch dolls by the case. We had people calling us in the middle of the night asking for dolls with certain hair colors and eye colors. So I wish I would of known you back then. We bought 100s of dolls and there were always some to hand out. My kids still have some of them. My kids are all grown but the doll dressed in St. Louis Cardinal Baseball uniform is one that is still around.

It never was that the dolls were cute, it was the fact they were so hard to get. It became a challenge for people that didn't have access to the manufacturer.

I don't remember not getting what I wanted but I never wanted much. Every year I asked for a baby doll, or a art set or something equally cheap. Of course in the late 50's baby dolls probably cost $10.00 or something.

    1. I think when we were young we didn't expect as much as the kids do now days and as such we didn't get dissapointed

  4. Ah, Cabbage Patch dolls. I do remember when they were the craze. I never got one. In the end it really didn't matter that much but at the time it seemed like the world ended... LOL. However, I REALLY wanted a Horse and I never got that either... LMAO.

  5. In the middle of a large family growing up toys were few and far between, if downright nonexistent.

  9. I remember asking my mom to get me a white letterman's sweater so I could put my varsity letter for soccer on it. You know, so I could wear it to school and all the chicks would dig me (as if). It was a thigh-length pure white sweater with not much of a collar and white buttons. What I got was an OFF-white fisherman's sweater that went just a little below my waist. With a thick collar and brown buttons.
That was 38 years ago and mom has long since died.
Geez, you'd think I'd let it go, huh?
