Hello everyone, I am restarting animal day as a weekly post and we will kick off with the Salamander, heard of it????
Salamanders are a group of amphibians typically characterised by a lizard-like appearance, with slender bodies, blunt snouts, short limbs projecting at right angles to the body, and the presence of a tail in both larvae and adults. All present-day salamander families are grouped together under the order Urodela
Many salamanders are far from being softies, to put predators off their skin can squirt out a dangerous poison which if swallowed can be powerful enough to kill a human.
The biggest salamanders lurk in Japanese and Chinese rivers, where they grow to 1.8m long and in prehistoric times they could be the size of a car........what the hell............
Many old legends says that they can survive a fire, sadly this isn't true. These slimy looking creatures often like to hide inside rotten logs, so when people place said logs on their fire the salamander craws out.
Like a starfish or flatworm they also have the ability to regenerate or regrow body parts that are lost. They can regrow their legs and tails as well as parts of their eyes, hearts and brain.
I have a great fondness for salamanders. :)ReplyDelete
They look like lizards and I am sorry I don't like lizards.ReplyDelete
Salamanders are one of those I like.ReplyDelete
One of those critters "everybody finds one under a rock as a kid" that I never have found, under a rock nor elsewhere.ReplyDelete
I've heard of salamanders but had no idea they could squirt a poison that could kill a human.ReplyDelete
Rita: So coolReplyDelete
Nancy: I get that
Katie: That's nice to hear, I think
Chris: I have never ssen one under a rock or on a rock or in a rock
Karen: That surprised me too
The kind of leash you use when walking your dog is very important. A small leash that would fit a small dog, like a chihuahua, satta king play bazaar is not going to fit a Rottweiler or pit bull.ReplyDelete
