Have
you heard of a Flatworm?
They
range in size from a grain of rice to a foot long, damn that would be
a long ass worm. They are leaf-shaped creatures that usually live in
water, many of them have an incredible ability to regenerate or
regrow their body parts.
Now
if these worms are chopped in half each half will become a whole new
worm. In experiments scientists have even cut a flatworm into a
hundred tiny parts and every part grew into a new worm.
Technical
stuff The flatworms, flat worms, Platyhelminthes, Plathelminthes, or
platyhelminths are a phylum of relatively simple bilaterian,
unsegmented, soft-bodied invertebrates
In
other family news I have Leo here all day as he sill feels sick but I
can tell he is improving, I took him to a doctor this morning who
said it is just a bug and he should be ok tomorrow. His mother has
been feeling unwell today herself. Also Blain is off school with the
same thing. I hope I don't end up with it.
I remember in school splitting the head of one of those and watching it turn into a two headed worm...
ReplyDeleteWe never did cool things like that when I was in school
DeleteHi Joanne - I hope you don't all get the dreaded bug ... flatworms are invasive to our British earthworms, which are essential to living soil - as Dickens found out ... cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteKathy has the same bug now, yes worms are important
DeleteInteresting creature.
ReplyDeleteI thought so
DeleteHi, Jo-Anne!
ReplyDeleteThat was an interesting lesson about the flatworm, one of nature's best examples of a creature that can survive traumatic injury and regenerate.
I hope those in your family that were "poorly' are feeling much better at this hour. Stay well, dear friend Jo-Anne!
Yes an interesting creature, Leo is much better should be going to school tomorrow,Kathy is off work as she has it now
DeleteYes, in school we did slice and dice small flatworms to see them regrow. Very strange little creatures. Can't imagine a really big one.
ReplyDeleteWhen I think worm I think little things
DeleteDid not need to see those worms!
ReplyDeleteHope Leo feels better soon.
Sorry
DeleteLeo is much better now
Those worms sound like nasty creatures. I hope you stay well, too.
