Dangerous Dogs

Ok I have written about big dogs, little dogs, beautiful dogs and ugly dogs now I am looking at dangerous dogs, and yeah I know and believe that any dog can act  in a dangerous way, it isn’t black and white so don’t shoot me if you disagree this is what information I found online.

A dangerous dog usually means a dog that has seriously attacked, bitten, or threatened a person or animal, or is officially classified that way under local law. The law can be different depending on your country, state or local council.

There are usually laws that state what is considered a dangerous dog. Many animal experts argue that training, socialisation, treatment, and owner responsibility matter more than breed alone.

Things that are looked at when declaring a dog dangerous are things like has the dog

Attacked or injured a person

Attacked or killed another animal

Acted in a way that causes a reasonable fear of serious harm or has been declared dangerous by a local council or animal control authority.

In many places, once a dog is declared dangerous, the owner may have to follow strict rules such as:

secure fencing or enclosure

muzzle and leash requirements

warning signs on the property

special registration or permits

limits on where the dog can go

In many places, a dog is classified as dangerous based more on its behaviour and history than its breed, however, some places have breed-specific laws or restrictions that often target breeds such as:

Pit Bull Terriers or pit bull–type dogs

American Staffordshire Terriers

Staffordshire Bull Terriers

Rottweilers

Dobermans

German Shepherds

Fila

Japanese Tosas

Dogo Argentinos

Presa Canarios

So do you consider any of these dogs as dangerous, I have always thought of Pit Bulls and Rottweilers as dangerous but I also know people who have owned Rottweilers and the dog has not been dangerous.

Now many years ago people referred to our dog “Dot Dot” as dangerous and vicious this is “Dot Dot”.

  1. Pit bulls and rottweilers have the reputation of the most severe attacks and the most fatal bites. They stand with their muscular bodies flexed and their jaws ready.
But the most important requirement for dog owners to fulfil is the vet's paper indicating up-to-date rabies vaccines.

  2. I pretty much think it's more about the owners than the dogs. How they are raised ... how they are treated. We had a doberman that was huge and just as sweet as they come. Everyone thought he was dangerous, but he literally never hurt even a fly. There are always exceptions I guess.

    1. How they are raised and treated makes a big difference

  3. Here in India stray dogs are a big menace. In the night they are a threat to anyone who walks on a street that has stray dogs.

  4. I grew up with German Sheherds. The last in my life died 3 years ago. It is all about how they are treated. Guard type dogs are more likely to become aggressive if they are mistreated. Some people encourage that behavior. Terriers are intense dogs which can lead to aggression, once again if mistreated. Of, course this can be applied to any breed, but some can be more reactive.

    1. Yes how they are treated and raised does play a part in how dangerous they are.

  5. There are strict leash laws in the States, especially in large urban areas. I love dogs, Jo-Anne, and I do think that dangerous ones are mostly a product of how they've been treated.

    1. I love dogs too and any dog can be dangerous and sometimes they are just protecting their human family my dog Dot Dot was like that very gentle but very protective

  6. I blame the owners, well, mostly if their dog is naughty, Jo-Anne.
Some of those dogs you mentioned are beautiful creatures and because some of them are big and strong they have a not so good a reputation. Also dogs can sense if people are scared of them. Little dogs, ankle biters can also be a nuisance with their bites too.

    1. I agree all dogs can be dangerous depending on how they are treated

  7. Dot Dot is built a lot like Misty. She's way too intimidated to be dangerous- except to me, lol!

  8. Im not familiar with Fila,Japanese Tosas, Dogo Argentinos or Presa Canarios. But the others you mentioned get a bad rap. I believe its not the dog, its their owners and their environment. I actually love pit bull dogs. They are cute and loveable. You have to be able to be the Alpha or they will know it. Very smart. Love rotwillers, too. Love German shepherds and again Dobermans are misrepresented. I've known a few Staffordshire Terriers that were sweet.
Every dog bite I ever had as a kid came from our Chihuahua. Cute as a button but she didn't take any abuse from us - when she was done playing dress up, and we didn't listen to her cues, she'd bite us! Lol.

    1. That it is so true how a dog is treated makes a big difference to how dangerous a dog can be
