A weighty blog post and baby Summer

Hello everyone, how is everyone on this cold August morning? I am cold but other than that I am fine.

I have baby Summer here with me she is starting to crawl, ie.........drag herself around the floor reaching for different things. I woke up this morning just as Kathy and the girls arrived here.

Yesterday I went to see the my GP about a weighty problem............ie...........my weight, a couple of weeks ago I had a bad morning it was one of those mornings when no matter what I put on I thought I looked so fat and I ended up getting depressed. So while I was sitting at the computer I wrote my feelings down. Kind of like a diary entry and than on the spur of the moment I addressed it and sent it to my doctor. After she read it she rang and arranged an appointment to  discuss it.

Now the appointment left me wondering why I bother, and did she get that I do not want lap band surgery or gastric bypass surgery, because I said clearly in the letter that I do not want these things they are not for me.

Anyway she went over my diet and told me that I not be adding crushed peanuts or bacon to my home made rice, now I don't add a lot of either only a dessertspoon full of each and said I should eat more veggies but I am not a big veggie eater. I told her I love to have fruit salad in the summer months and she said I should only have one small bowl of fruit salad, like that is going to happen as I love my fruit.

She also referred me to another dietitian who I will ring and find out how much that will cost and then tell Tim and arrange an appointment to see him, she said the dietitian that I had been seeing was a bit "soft & nice" with her clients and that she thought I should see a tougher person.

I told her that I put on the most weight while I was exercising every day for an hour or more and going for a long hour long walk most days and I ended up just getting to a point where I thought why and I bothering. I know I have to get back into exercising more at this time I am only doing 30-40 minutes per day.

I know all the right things to do, there are just times that I do not do the right things and can't be bothered, sometimes it all seems too hard. There are days when I am happy with who I am and then there are other days that I hate who I am. I doubt I am the only person to feel like this.

  1. We all have days when we're hard on ourselves. Ultimately, the only person who can decide what you'll eat is you. Eating a high protein diet has helped me lose weight, but I chose to do it. No one ordered me or tried to force me into it.

    Love,
    Janie

  2. "There are days when I am happy with who I am and then there are other days that I hate who I am. I doubt I am the only person to feel like this." I used to be that way... Maybe deep down I still am. But I think I finally got past the point of caring except in how it affects my health. Any serious dieting attempt would cut out Pepsi, chocolate, and eating before bed. And that won't happen...

  3. My best friend has already lost 25 lbs by switching to a gluten-free diet after consulting with a wellness dietician. She also hates veggies but is making smoothies every day and she adds kale or spinach to it and loves them. I make them too and you can't taste the veggies but you are getting the nutrition. I'm sorry you're feeling so frustrated. But don't be too hard on yourself and just take little steps. {{hugs}}

  4. I know it is hard. I am a small person but gain weight really easily so I have to eat a very strict diet of lean mean and veggies along with a lot of exercise. AND I know it isn't fun. Dawn Saros-Kirk has a great suggestion. I have a smoothie everyday for lunch made out of protein powder and fruit. It doesn't sound like much but it is amazingly filling. Making little changes is easier than going on some crash diet program. I haven't been over-weight for awhile but back when I was it made me unhappy. I hope you find a way to work through it and not be frustrated by it. If you ever just need a pep talk or some ideas, my email address is on my blog.

    1. Since I like smoothies I think I will try to have more of them in my diet, I do have them more in the summer months, crash diets don't work for me.

  5. I know exactly what you are speaking of. I've lost over 160 lbs., work out like crazy, and still feel unhappy with where I am. Try the new dietitian. See how it goes. Not for anything else but for making you healthier. I'm rooting for you.

  6. The weird thing is, it IS pretty chilly here. And August is supposed to be hot and humid up "nawth." I'd like to get a chance to go swimming before I close my pool in two weeks.
What a beautiful baby, by the way.

  7. I lost about 30lbs just by not snacking. The terrible thing is I will have it all gained back probably after winter. Which is from November to May here. It is important that I exercise not just for the weight but to have greater mobility, flexibility and well-being. I say if it feels healthy to you don't worry about the scales.

  11. I can so relate to this. I go back and forth on my weight too. sometimes I'm determined to do better, sometimes I don't care at all. I hate it. It's gotten worse since I hit 50...very discouraging. You are not alone!

  12. Dearest Jo-Anne,
Guess your doctor is right in seeing a tougher dietitian. It is not that hard for me as I always loved veggies and fruits. Cutting back on sugar is a great thing; drinking just bottled water and also being vegetarian helps. Hope you manage to feel better about yourself and find the discipline to follow up!
