Five Things Friday...............Crime & Consequence

Five things Friday is here again

If you commit a crime suffer the consequence

If the consequence is the death penalty then so be it, you rolled that diced

One country can't tell another country what punishment they can have, if the criminal had a fair trial and did commit the crime they just have to deal with the penalty dealt to them

I am not in favour of the death penalty generally speaking, with some exceptions

Some countries have very harsh penalties

  1. I am a firm believer that if they met the state's burden of proof, that many criminals need to be executed. Further, I would rather see them hang as a deterrant than "fall asleep" in the bowels of some prison. But this should with a proviso that anyone who provides later proven false witness in the matter- from judge to stoolie- gets the same punishment.

    1. Yeah I get that this post was inspired by the fate of the Bali Nine, well the two who are trying not get be executed, I don't necessary think drug smugglers should be executed but that is the law over there

  2. Dearest Jo-Annne,
In general, in the Western world, punishment is often a farce and that's why crime is so on the rise!

    1. I so agree with that, on the telly the other day there was this guy with a record of offences a mile long and he has never been to gaol he keeps getting fines he doesn't pay and community service he doesn't do

  3. I believe a life sentence should be a life sentence not just 15 years. I don't think people should be killed. After all their suffering stops then. Justice all depends on how good your lawyer is.

    1. Yes so often a life sentence means nothing they are out after only a few years or if lucky they will serve 10 or 15 years

  4. I am disturbed by cases in which people are sentenced to death or are actually executed, and then we learn they were innocent. Some people commit murder and are executed or spend their entire lives in prison. Other people are released after five, ten, or fifteen years. It's confusing.

    1. Yes that is why I am not in favour of the death sentence, or though there are some cases when I do think it is ok but this was more about if your go to a different country and they have the death penalty and you do something stupid like smuggle drugs in the case of the Bali Nine and get caught who is to blame if you get the death penalty
