Here we are on another cold but dry Wednesday so it is time for this week's Aussie slang.
Battler: Hard working, barely making ends meet
Boomer: Large male kangaroo
Bush Telly: Campfire
Bushie: Someone who lives in the bush
BYOG: Bring Your Own Grog
Of these the only one new to me is the bush telly haven't heard that before. My parents were battlers same can be said for Tim & I
Back when it was Scrappy, before Misty, looking out the window was called "Scrappy TV"...
ReplyDeleteYeah I get that
DeleteHadn't heard of bush telly either Jo-Anne.
ReplyDeleteI first thought it must be a really old saying then remember TV isn't that old
DeleteI use boomer all the time, but with a slightly different meaning. When the men came back from war in Dec 1945, mums everywhere became pregnant and boomers were born (1946-55).
ReplyDeleteThat they did and a baby boomer is a saying I am familiar with
DeleteI LIKE bush telly. That's what it is when you sit and gaze into it.
ReplyDeleteSounds about right
DeleteI do love being a part of the Baby Boom generation, Jo-Anne. Thanks for the slang words today!
ReplyDeleteThat;s good and you're welcome
DeleteDidn't know any of these. Of course your boomer is different than baby boomer, which I knew. :)
ReplyDeleteYeah quite different indeed, glad you like the post
