Five Thing Friday/Good Friday

Good morning all here we are at Friday again and it has started out being a really good Friday and of course it is Good Friday, so here is this weeks five things.

No Meat

Crucified

Pontius Pilate

Public Holiday

Jesus

Ok so it is Good Friday and for me that means no meat today, why we don't eat meat on Good Friday I have no idea, but it is one day a year so not a problem. It is how I was raised as was my mother and her mother and so forth.

I get annoyed with my own daughters because they do have meat because they are not religious which is ok I get that but as I said it is one day a year how hard is it to not eat meat on this one day.

Here in Australia Good Friday is a public holiday, and a true public holiday as in 90 odd percent of things are in fact closed, all supermarkets are closed are is pretty much all other stores, service stations are opened, buses and trains run and taxis operate, most take away shops are opened fish and chip shops do a roaring trade on this day. All shopping centres aka malls in some countries are closed.

The same goes for Easter Sunday.

  2. Hi, Jo-Anne!

I wouldn't have a problem avoiding meat every single day of the year because I am vegetarian. However, my doctor advises me to eat meat and Mrs. Shady kicks my butt if I don't eat the roasts she puts in front of me. Therefore, to keep the peace, I eat meat when she cooks it.

I hope you are enjoying your Good Friday down under and I wish you and your wonderful family a very happy Easter, dear friend Jo-Anne!

  3. We often have meatless meals. Actually had one tonight. I respect you sticking with your tradition of not eating meat.

  4. We don't eat meat on Good Friday either Jo-Anne.
The reason! Tried to look it up but doesn't seem to be a simple explanation or a short one.

    1. I know it is confusing but do we need to know the reason why can't we just accept that, that's how it is

  5. Good Friday is not a public holiday in my country. But Christian schools apply for holiday on this day. Any celebration is confirmed within the church. Have a good day!

  6. I'm not Catholic, I grew up Episcopalian, but my FIL (who stepped in as my dad when my dad died in my 20's) was Catholic, and he taught me that meat was considered not only delicious but also a treat, so to give it up was a way to show penance during lent. Have a Good Friday and Happy Easter.

  9. When I was a kid, it all used to be a holiday. But now it is secular. Stores are still open - not even knowing or even caring, what it all means.
