Answers to the questions


Ok as I said I am giving the answers to yesterdays questions, it is kind of sad that this Aussie knows a lot more about America than most Americans know about Australia, anyway here are the answers.


What is the capital of Australia?
Canberra

How many states are there?
There are 6 states, New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania, we also have two territories The Northern Territory, and the ACT (Australian Capital Territory)


How many stars are on our flag?
There are 6 stars on the flag

What is the country's largest city?
Our largest city is Sydney

Who was our first Prime Minister?
The first Prime Minister was Edmund Barton

What two animals are on our coat of arms?
The coat of arms has the Kangaroo, and the Emu on it

  1. A bit tricky for overseas bloggers. I think we have more territories. There are 3 mainland territories NT, ACT, Jervis Bay Territory. There are 6 island territories including Christmas Is, Cocos Is , Norfolk Is and 3 others and then there is Australian Antarctic Territory. (I had to google this)

    1. I was only listing the main two I know there are more but usually we say 6 states and 2 territories

  2. I'm one of those Americans. I don't know anything about Australia. But I don't know all that much about American history either, just the "big" stuff.

  3. I'm the same as Elsie, I didn't know any of these facts of Australia, but half the time I can't remember how many states we have here in the US, lol ... ooops..

  4. What's the difference between a state and a territory? I've noticed that you know a lot about the U.S.

    1. Short answer not bloody much, the six states represent the six British colonies that joined together to create the Commonwealth of Australia. The territories are lands not claimed by the six states they are not suppose to have the same rights as the states but the two main ones the NT & ACT do so really I have no idea how these two are different from the states.
