CHANNEL-BILLED CUCKOO

Good morning all this Tuesday I am telling you a tad about the Channel-Billed Cuckoo, this sneaky bird uses another birds nest when it's ready to lay its eggs, often damaging the other birds eggs.

When hatched the young cuckoo is cared for by the mother of the original eggs.

The channel-billed cuckoo is a species of cuckoo in the family Cuculidae. It

is monotypic within the genus Scythrops. The species is the largest brood parasite in the world, and the largest cuckoo. It is found in Australia, New Guinea and Indonesia; additionally, it is vagrant in New Caledonia and New Zealand.

The Channel-billed Cuckoo migrates to northern and eastern Australia from New Guinea and Indonesia between August and October each year. The birds leave Australia in February or March.

  2. That's a huge bird! Very clever evolutionary adaptation, to have another bird species raise its young!
