Renewing Wedding Vows

Vow renewal ceremonies-yay or nay?
This is something I would love to do but it isn’t something my husband is interested in I do wonder why it would be so hard for him to do this for me. Now it’s not because my wedding sucked or anything like that but since me and hubby have had some rough patches in the last few years and we are still together. I would like to reassert our commitment to each other.

The only thing about my wedding I didn’t like was my wedding cake while is that you ask well it’s because it was a fruit cake and I do not eat fruit cake and have never eaten fruit cake so I would love to have a chocolate wedding cake.

What does other bloggers think?

  1. I personally wouldn't renew my wedding vows. I said them once and no need to repeat.
Fruit cakes were the only cake underneath all the icing once - of course these days it's very different.

  2. I hope that he surprises you one day and actually organises it himself...but I guess it would be nice just for him to agree.

A chocolate cake sounds great :)

  3. what a shame that you'd really like to renew your vows but Tim won't be in it. must be disappointing for you. i don't think i'd renew mine if given the chance, but you never know. never say never as the say. and .. i'd def. prefer a chocolate wedding cake :)

  4. Dearest Jo-Anne,
Vow renewal ceremony; this is first time for me to hear about it. I would guess that you wish to shift your life better one doing it. Oh, I think nothing wrong with it, as long as your husband agrees it(like your other friend said). I hope he will☆☆☆ You made me smile with the cake thing, my friend.
Lots of love and hugs from sis-city in Japan, xoxo Miyako*

  5. I think if that's firmly in your heart, Tim should at least open a little to it. It's a lovely way to represent commitment. What is his favorite kind of cake? Maybe you could promise him one that he can't resist in addition to your chocolate...

  7. It is not something I have ever felt the need to do, after forty happy years. however I understand the desires of those that do want to like yourself.

  9. I think renewing one's vows is a wonderful thing but I also, see that some people don't see the sentimentality or the benefit of doing it again.

We have been married 41 years and haven't renewed our vows but not because we don't think it wouldn't be a nice gesture or that we don't love each other, I think we feel like we committed ourselves to each other as teenagers and we "meant it forever" so there isn't a reason to stamp that envelope again. We will be helping each other out of our chairs when we are 90 if we live that long.

Some of our friends have renewed their vows on their 50th anniversary. Maybe I will be in the mood to do that 9 years from now.

If this is something you really want, hopefully Tim also will have a change of heart and do it for you.

  11. Like you, I certainly don't like fruit cakes, such as Wedding Cake or Christmas cake. I would be quite open to renewing my wedding vows, and if it's something that you really would like to happen, then perhaps Tim ought to at least give it some thought. I think if you have perhaps been through a few tough times, then it is a really nice idea to reaffirm your commitment to one another.

  12. It's not something I've ever wanted to do, but if it means a lot to you, I say you should.

  13. Maybe you could do your own private ceremony, just the two of you. Go off to be alone someplace different from home, write your own vows, and have chocolate cake! ;)

  14. I wanted to renew our wedding vows and go on the honeymoon we never had. My husband got in the way of my plans by divorcing me. That bloody bastard.

    Love,

  15. I think renewing is a beautiful idea. I wouldn't want to spend any money on it, though. :-) I don't think most men are interested in romantic gestures like that, so you're not alone in your hubby saying no.

  16. Jo-Anne! I've been emailing you, and getting no response. I guess you have a no-reply email? Anywhoo...you are a winner of brownies from my quiz! Do you want them? :-) Let me know. You can email me from my blog (the envelope baseball) or reply to this through my name...it goes to my email.

  18. Is beautifull to renew your wedding vows, to remember the promisse that two people made years ago, to honor and love each other for beter or for worse and never forget why they get married in first place,to never forget the long lasting love and keep sharing that love for years to come.
