Who should care for us when we can no longer care for ourselves

Not long ago one of my daughters made the comment that when her dad is old and can’t look after himself she wouldn’t be taking care of him, he would be going into a home……………………lol

Now some people would get upset by such a statement but not me or Tim…………….why because we do not want to be a burden on our children when we are old and unable to take care of ourselves. I have always said when that time comes but me in a nursing home, now some people think of nursing homes as terrible places and yes there may be some terrible nursing homes but many a good. They are clean and staffed by caring people who do their best for those who live in the home. 

  

This makes me think about my nan, I can remember my nan saying many times that she didn’t want to go into a nursing home but she really didn’t think there would come a time when she would not be able to take care of herself. However that is what has happened, the Alzheimer’s has taken so much from her, she no longer can walk, bath herself or go to the toilet or feed herself. Even though me and mum go to see her every Wednesday I don’t know if she knows who we are anymore, sometimes she seems to other times she doesn’t.  She thinks of my uncle as a little boy not a man in his 50’s. 

I know some think that we take care of our children when they are young and unable to care for themselves and in such they must take care of us when we are unable to care for ourselves but I am not like that.  I think it is wrong it is one thing if we are able to go to the toilet, bath and feed ourselves but if we can’t do those things we shouldn’t expect our children to do so for us. 

Our Little Leo is no 5...................

Today is the 5^th birthday of my “Little Leo” wow 5 years old boy those 5 yrs have gone fast. He will be starting school at the end of the month and I can tell you both his mother and me & papa are a little concerned about how he will be. Since he would get sent home from day care for acting up, throwing things and hitting staff on his last day he was sent home for punching a little girl in the face.

He opened a couple of presents a race car set which was given to him by papa and a Ben Ten thing given to him by his mum. 

She told him he couldn’t open any more till after lunch so he comes out around 9am and said he was hungry and wanted lunch I said it is too early for lunch but I will make him breakfast so then he things and says ok I will have two eggs with fingers (soft boiled eggs with toast sliced into fingers) he ate all his eggs and goes in and tells his mum who says you haven’t had lunch yet so I had to go in and explain things to her she gave him another present some Spiderman figures. 

We as in me and Leo went out and bought some batteries for his race car set and when we got home my niece Liarna was here with her mum Leigh she will be here for most of the day.  My sister Sandra rang to see if I would like her to pick Liarna up but I said no she is fine.

It is now 3.50pm my brother not long ago picked Liarna up so there is only me & Tim and Jes & Leo here now but it is still loud and the lounge room still looks a right mess. 

We have had the air conditioners going all day and it is still bloody hot outside just glad I do not have to go outside much.  I did have to go outside when I went down to the fish and chips for lunch but that was enough for me …………lol

I told Jessica I am fine with them staying again tonight but I do not want them to  be here all day tomorrow or even half a day…………….

Beef Jerky and nothing much else

Yet another hot day here, and feeling even hotter at the moment because hubby is working in the kitchen and has turned off the A/C while he is in there. What is he doing you wonder well he is trying to make his own Beef Jerky he has never tried this before well he says he hasn’t tried it before but I thought he did give it a go many years ago but I may be wrong.   I will tell everyone how it turns out tomorrow or Tuesday as it has to marinate for 24hrs in the fridge before he cooks it.

Yes I have another headache or maybe that should read I still have a headache since I don’t think it went away at all in the last 4 or 5 days……..

Jessica has just arrived because she said she wanted to get out of her house for a bit and had nowhere else to go, also my house is air conditioned and to be honest I am surprised she hadn’t turned up earlier.

I am now cooking hot chips for Leo for lunch with a pasta dish now let’s see if he eats it. Jessica said she has no food in her house and when I asked her what she wanted for lunch she had no idea. Oh well she is old enough to feed herself. 

I am so over this headache and feeling so drained but I do know that it is the heat that is making me feel drained……………the heat does that doesn’t it drain us out and make us feel like doing bugger all. I am also blaming the heat for my brain not working and me not really having anything to blog about today except rambling dribble……………..lol

Tomorrow Tim said he wants us to go to a bulk goods warehouse place to stock up on some things me well I would like to stock up on stuff too but can’t see the point of driving 45 minutes to do so but anyway it is what he wants to do so we will do it tomorrow.

Can we say HOT yes it's Bloody Hot Here

Well today has been another hot day, stinking bloody hot at that some parts of the country are in the grip of a heatwave with temperatures in the high 40’s. Mum said in her text message today that were they are it was 48c and the first thing they did was set the air con up and got it running they have a split system in the motorhome. 

We have had the air con going here all day I turned it on when I got up and Tim left it on when he went to work so I could come home to a cool house. Thankfully Tim is in an air conditioned bus so he is not working in the heat either.

Tomorrow is my niece Temika’s 3^rd birthday and on Tuesday it will be Leo’s 5^th birthday, Sandra is having a small party for her at their place tomorrow I do not know if I will get over there as Tim is going fishing tomorrow with a few mates so he will have the car. I will see what happens tomorrow. 

Yesterday I had a terrible headache, and although I have been fine during the day in the last half hour it has come back and I am not feeling great.

Hello 2013

2013 is here now and I have had a great start to the new year, I wanted to write and post this yesterday but just didn’t get around to it, so here I am a day late saying welcome 2013. Anyway what was I doing yesterday that was so time consuming well I invited my daughters over for a baked lunch roast chicken with baked veggies, followed by apple pie and custard.

Out of my 3 daughters only 2 turned up Kathy-Lee & Jessica but all 3 grandchildren were here Jessica brought over Blain and Kelli & Daemon.  It was a great start to the year and I felt really happy with having them all here, Kelli is like another daughter even if she is my niece and that makes Daemon my great nephew. 

It was another hot day here stinking bloody hot and had the air con going all day and half the night again and today it is a lot cooler. We had Leo here for the night and this morning he slept in late again it was like 9am before he woke up.

Yesterday afternoon Leo was so cute and so frustrating at the same time, my mum & Dawson gave him and Leo a remote control truck and he loves it. Tim/Papa took him out the front so he could play with it in the driveway, but the battery cover is lost so the battery keeps coming out and this frustrates Leo. Anyway he comes inside because the battery was lose again but papa was going to the toilet so I said I would help him and he gets annoyed and said “not you, you’re just a girl” this was both funny and not funny at the same time……….

Each time he got frustrated we just left him to get over it himself the first time he went and sat on a large rock that is just outside the house and the next few times he went into the bedroom and sat on the bed each time it took him only a few minutes to get over it and calm down.

Then when it was time for him to have his bath he said he didn’t want on but he was so dirty his feet where black this meant we striped him off and carried him into the bath and just put him in the tub and papa washed his feet and splashed water over him. 

Everything was fine till it was time to go to bed when I told him he had to have a pull up on (night time nappy) as he sometimes will still wet during the night he didn’t want it on but changed his mind when I said if he didn’t have one on he would have to sleep in his own bed and not with me and papa…………he likes to sleep with me and papa…………..lol When I got him dressed this morning he said to me “see I didn’t wee”…………….
