Hello everyone, you may have noticed that there was no post yesterday due to my computer having a hissy fit from 8.15am till 10am when it started working again as it should but by then I couldn't be bothered doing anything.
So here are this week's Aussie slang words.
Gabba: Wooloongabba, Brisbane cricket ground
Give it a burl: Try it or have a go
Going off: Busy with lot's of people.
A party that's lot's of fun
Hooroo: Goodbye
Jumbuck: Sheep
Well, those are certainly odd....
ReplyDeleteOdd?????????
DeleteI guess they are...........
If you said here that somebody "went off" on somebody they would have read them the riot act or vented their anger in some way. "Going off" is close sounding to that but has such a different meaning! Wow!
ReplyDeleteIndeed similar but different
DeleteI purposely use "hooroo" all the time these days because I don't like the way other brands of English have taken over our language. Hooroo is nostalgic and familial.
ReplyDeleteI say it a lot myself
DeleteWell I must say Jo-Anne I only know 2 of these.
ReplyDeleteI have a tendency to forget were the Gabba is
DeleteYou're right, those are somewhat peculiar....
ReplyDeleteDifferent and odd to some
DeleteThose are definitely different. Enjoyed reading them.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that really is Utopian!
