.Well it is Monday again so it is facts day.
The British royal family changed there surname from the German Saxe-Coburg-Gotha to Windsor in 1917. WW1 broke out in 1914 and by 1917 was in full fury, so King George V decided to change the family name to Windsor after Windsor castle.
King George V also renounced all German title belonging to him and his family.
Kissing under the mistletoe is a peculiarity British tradition, a girl isn't supposed to refuse anyone even if it is some weird creepy guy.
A guy who receives a kiss must pick a berry from the branch when all the berries are gone the kissing must end.
Charles VI called “Charles the Mad” ruled France from 1380-1415. He believed he was made of glass and put iron rods into his clothes to stop himself breaking
Interesting Jo-Anne.
ReplyDeleteMargaret........Thanks
ReplyDeleteYeah, I knew about the name change - but did not know anything about the mistletoe tradition. I just thought someone hung it on the ceiling and whoever stands under it gets kissed. Gross that there were those who took it seriously that a girl had to stand there and be kissed by some creep. Yuck. I wouldn't have faired well back in those times.
ReplyDeleteI had just read a book on Charles' most faithful liegeman, Charles went mad refusing to take it easy when he was ill and meeting an enemy in hot weather. He fell from his horse, and when his men came to see to him, he grabbed a sword and started swinging at everyone. Soon fell into a coma and had on and off madness the rest of his life.
ReplyDeleteDebby.........I wouldn't have either
ReplyDeleteChris..........Now that is interesting
