Thursday's Words

Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow —
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand —
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep — while I weep!
O God! Can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

  1. Dearest Jo-Anne,
    A dream within a dream...?
For us not yet... still waiting for our $ 500 and tomorrow we will go back to the police department to have an investigator step in, if we don't hear back from them.
What a stress since July 8. Unreal and they talk in circles, making you almost dizzy.
Hope your week went well and that you stay warm.
Today I drove the approx. 500 km again for making the rounds. Had not done this since May 19. Easy traffic on my end, a bit of rain on the way back but smooth!
Got stocked up on everything nicely, good feeling but you're kind of 'pooped' when arriving home. Had to still reply to several things, issues with my book cover etc. In the end things move too slow for me; that is, having to wait on others!
    Well, that's life.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  2. Love that! One of my first M10 songs was based on that poem.

  4. Sometime it does feel like a dream within a dream. I can imagine the feeling of the sand grain creeping through my fingers. Hope is all we have and no one can take it away from us. Have a beautiful day.

  5. Poe wrote so much more than The Raven, how few people know just how eloquently he could capture how it feels to dream, and what we feel if it seems to be slipping away.
