What Type Of Holiday Do You Prefer To Take

Ok here’s the question if you had the time and the money which would you prefer to do take a plan or take a train? Do you love flying or do you only do it if you have to? Or maybe you love the feel of a train ride.

Me I have always loved trains and would love to go on a train holiday but it is not something hubby is that interested in doing, he says he doesn’t mind flying me I have only ever flown once and I loved it……………no that is wrong when I was a teenager I went of a joy flight with my dad and grandfather and I remember loving that too.  But if I had the choice I would chose a train trip over a plane trip.

Have you ever been on a cruise? I have and I loved that so much and would really love to go on another cruise but hubby isn’t that interested in doing that either he feels once was enough but I will work on him and maybe get the chance to go on another cruise sometime in the future but honestly my next thing is to try and convince him to take a train holiday……………

Then again maybe you are one for road trips, I have been on many road trips and they can really be fun too, but not so much when you have three young daughters who get bored and restless very easy and keep asking that dreaded question “are we there yet”…………………..lol

  1. Hi Jo-Anne. I have never been on a cruise nor a train ride (for a vacation). I think I would love the train ride because we could stop in all kinds of towns I've never been in. I could really see the countryside. It would be a real vacation because we could do anything more strenuous than walk to the cafe for lunch! That would be my ideal vacation. We just came from Kauai, Hawaii and we flew there. It was quick to get there and we exhausted ourselves most days doing touristy things. Thankfully we spend a lot of time at the beach the last two days. That was the best part!

I have had several oversea flights, but never been on the cruise before. Oh, I wish to have a trip to anywhere I have never been to♡♡♡

    1. At this point I will take any type of holiday I have only ever flown short flights so no idea how it would be to go on a longer flight

  3. Flying is fine as it is the quickest way to get to ones destination, especially if it is outside Europe. We would like to travel by train more but it can be surprisingly expensive so when we go back to the UK we fly if it is a short trip or drive if we are going for a longer time in the winter. As for cruises they have not appealed to us yet but you never know maybe one day!

  4. I don't mind flying, but I haven't ridden on a train in the US at all. The last time was in Europe many years ago, and I would love to take a train trip. On my bucket list one day is to visit your lovely country~

  9. I like variety so I like all manner of travel. We travel a lot so I have never felt like once is enough of anything. After a lot of cruises, I have figured out I prefer certain cruise lines and I like varying the ports of call.

Airline travel isn't as fun as it used to be. Less in-flight service and the "packing the seats so close" leaves one feeling pretty much like a sardine BUT I like getting to my destination quickly if it is a far distance. As we fly enough to rack up upgrades to first class, I try to upgrade on longer flights.

As for driving...love driving back roads. Interstate travel is boring and it all looks the same but going through lots of little interesting towns is fun.

Train travel in the states has gotten problematic. The freight trains own a lot of the tracks so the passenger trains have to pull over and allow right of way. I took a train over to an Oktoberfest celebration in Herman, Missouri last year. I could have driven it in about 3 hours but it took 5 by train. Because everyone had been drinking beer all day at the Oktoberfest the trip back felt like a lifetime. Nothing like a lot of drunk people for 5 hours with no way to escape. I love taking commuter trains to get into major cities though so I don't have to fight traffic and park. I find those fun to people watch as well.

PS for whatever reason, the comment section won't let me post from my google account today so I am signing in a bit different

    1. Ok yes being on a train surronded by drunks for 5 hours would drive me around the bend.......I like the old trains that had compartments I do not think some of the modern trains are all that crash hot

  10. I don't think I'd like a cruise, but I've always wanted to do a train trip through the Canadian Rockies. It seems so glamorous and romantic!

  11. To be honest I'd just love to travel regardless of the form of travel. I haven't seen much of England so would be over the moon if I got to see a lot more of it but then I also like the un-usualness of a foreign country as it broadens your mind but also makes you appreciate what you have. Maybe one day I'll get to travel.

  12. I have never been on a train for a holiday, nor have I been on a cruise, although lots of my friends have, and they all love them. I have never heard anyone say that they have no enjoyed a cruise. I like to fly to get to places as quickly as possible, although air travel is not so much fun these days, with all the security checks and things that you can carry and can't carry. I do hope you get to go on a trip with hubby soon!

  15. I love to travel. It's the anticipation of a new place and a new discovery. My husband however, hates it. He hate to fly, trains not bad boats are so, so. Thus I travel to far away places without him... :(. He loves road trips so that will be our next great adventure.

BTW: there is a big shout to you on my last post, yesterday. Check it out... :-)
